This month we want to help you start the year off by getting organized as you\u2019re planning your wedding or event. Get ready for some great ideas to help you reduce stress and enjoy the planning process\u00a0as you move along through the blog hop.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re likely spending several months or more than a year to plan your special day, which will feel like it\u2019s over in the blink of an eye.\u00a0 Of course you\u2019ll want a great photographer to capture it all.\u00a0 But even the best photographers can be hindered by a chaotic wedding day. A good timeline will help your day go smoothly.\u00a0 After 10 years of photographing weddings, I\u2019ve seen a lot of mishaps that could have been prevented.\u00a0 Here are just a few tips to help you organize your wedding day photography.\u00a0 These ideas will not only help your photographer get the photos you want but allow you to have a fun and stress-free wedding day.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Set a photo policy for guests.<\/h2>\n

Guests use of cell phones and Ipads on your wedding day has been a hot topic in the wedding industry lately.\u00a0 Most people enjoy capturing those memories but it can sometimes annoy others or worse, interfere with your hired photographer.\u00a0 Regardless of how you feel about it, set some guidelines and be sure to get the word out through your wedding party. Here are a few questions to consider.<\/p>\n

Can guests photograph during your ceremony?<\/strong>\u00a0You\u2019ll want to talk to your officiant as they often have photography rules in place.<\/p>\n

Can guests photograph during the formal portraits?<\/strong>\u00a0If your photographer allows it, consider the impact of the request \u201cwait one minute so I can get one too\u201d while your photographer is trying to move on to the next group portrait.<\/p>\n

Will you welcome suggestions from your guests of people to include in group portraits or pose ideas?<\/strong>\u00a0Perhaps you’ve hired your photographer for their candid style of getting natural, romantic photos.\u00a0 Do you mind if someone interrupts with a suggested \u201cmust have\u201d pose that they did at their wedding 30 years ago?<\/p>\n

Can guests post photos to social media and if so, when?<\/strong>\u00a0Do you care if dark or blurry cell phone snaps are the first photos documenting your day?<\/p>\n

Designate a portrait coordinator<\/h2>\n

Do you have a large or extended family that you want included in your family portraits? You already know you need a list but who should manage that list? Your photographer seems like the natural person to manage your photo list. After all, he or she will be taking the portraits, right? Wrong! Your photographer will be busy finding the best location, making sure the lighting and technical aspects are perfect, arranging groups and posing everyone beautifully.\u00a0 They won\u2019t know who your missing Uncle Joe is, let alone have time to check the bar to see if he\u2019s gone to get a drink.<\/p>\n

Your wedding planner or venue coordinator isn\u2019t a suitable candidate for the job either.\u00a0 They will be busy putting on the finishing touches for your reception.\u00a0 A close family friend is the best person for the job.\u00a0 They should be someone who is authoritative and knows most of the family.\u00a0 While your photographer is arranging one group, they can gather the next group and make sure they are ready for portraits. The portrait coordinator will handle the list, find missing people and make sure no one is forgotten.<\/p>\n

Be on time.<\/h2>\n

Few weddings run completely on schedule but taking too long to get ready can affect how many bridal portraits you have. I’ve had brides miss their entire bridal portrait session scheduled before the ceremony because hair or make up ran late.<\/p>\n

\"Atlanta<\/p>\n

Of course I take them after the ceremony but not as many because time is limited. I’ll have 4-5 times as many groom and groomsmen portraits, taken before the wedding, as I do bride and bridesmaids portraits because they had to be taken in the limited time after family portraits.\u00a0 Even if you\u2019ve done a hair & makeup trial and practiced bustling your dress, allow yourself twice as much time as you think you\u2019ll need to get ready.<\/p>\n
