Choosing a Location for Spring Engagement Portraits
As winter melts away, people flood the parks to take advantage of warmer temperatures. Prime spots in popular parks, such as Piedmont Park, Stone Mountain Park or Atlanta Botanical Gardens, are often very crowded. Your portraits may lack a romantic, intimate feel if lots of people are in the background. Consider smaller neighborhood parks or nicely landscaped office parks as alternatives. If you have your heart set on a popular location, take a few hours off of work and choose a weekday time to avoid the crowds.
Preparing for Spring Weather
Atlanta weather is very unpredictable during the spring. It’s not uncommon for there to be 30 temp fluctuations during the day. There could be a huge temperature shift between the start and end of your portrait session so wearing layers is a good idea to stay comfortable throughout your shoot.
Having a back-up plan in case of rain or a cold snap is a must. Indoor locations such as museums or nicely designed restaurants can be a great alternative to rainy day engagement portraits. Many locations do have fees and restrictions on photography in their space. Be sure to call ahead and ask.
Lastly, if you suffer from severe allergies, don’t schedule an outdoor engagement season from mid-March through mid-May. Seriously. Photoshop cannot magically erase your red, watery eyes and runny nose. If an outdoor spring engagement session isn’t a possibility, you can still add a bit of spring to your engagement portraits. Choose an indoor location with a light, bright and airy feel. Select a coordinated outfit featuring bright spring colors and accessories.
