Personalizing Your Wedding Day

The best way to personalize your wedding is to forgo traditions and opt for elements that are meaningful to you. Many traditions come from outdated practices from the business transaction that marriages used to be.

Buck Tradition

Many brides change into a reception dress for their wedding but most would never dream of wearing black. This bride chose a little black dress for her wedding, complete with black roses and a black garter to toss.

These high school sweethearts got ready together on their wedding day. In fact, I met the couple when they were shopping for the bride’s dress together. They were not concerned with tradition or bad luck. All their portraits were taken before the ceremony as well. Brides and grooms spend so little time together on their wedding day so I’m all for maximizing the time they have together.

Include Your Little Ones

I love when couples with children from previous relationships incorporate their kids into their ceremony. Many include children in their bridal party, but these couples included them during their ceremony. In the first image below, the bride, groom and daughter participate in the sand ceremony signifying their unity.  The bride and groom, in the second image included the groom’s son in their vows.  After the ring exchange, in the 3rd ceremony, the couple presented the groom’s daughter with a special necklace.

While it’s okay to look to Pinterest for inspiration, consider your own unique ideas to incorporate into you days.
