My husband, Nathan, & I went hiking at Sweetwater Creek State Park. I heard about the ruins there, and wanted to check it out. The ruins used were a textile mill built by slaves for the New Manchester Manufacturing Company. The mill was burned down during the civil war, and all the workers were taken as prisoners and sent to the north. After the war, they were released but none ever returned to the New Manchester Manufacturing Company.
It’s funny. I was always bored to tears in my history classes. But it’s fascinating to visit a place and see the history in person. If I were a history teacher, my class would be nothing but field trips. A tour of European museums would have definetely livened up my art history classes.
